When is it normal to feel anxiety?
We all feel fear or anxiety from time to time. It helps us deal with stressful situations like getting out of a burning building or staying focused during a presentation. It is normal to experience anxiety during times of stress like while making a big decision, moving to a new location or losing a job. However, at times our anxiety can take over and interfere with our healthy functioning.
When should I seek help for anxiety?
Anxiety disorders last for a long time and may get worse over time. Our thoughts have a powerful impact on our mind and body. Some common forms of anxiety taking over are persistent worry about daily functioning, fears about being judged by others, fears of impending doom when there is no real danger, a continued stress reaction to having experienced a trauma or witnessing one, experiencing obsessive thoughts or a need to perform certain routines or an intense fear of something that poses little or no danger.
